Bacalar (Maya: Bakhalal, 'Cerca o rodreado de carrizos' )? es una población del estado mexicano de Quintana Roo, situada en el sur de su territorio a unos 40 km al norte de la capital, Chetumal. Pertenece al Municipio de Othón P. Blanco. Bacalar se encuentra situada en la ribera de la Laguna de Bacalar, la más importante de las lagunas del sur quintanarroense y de gran atractivo turístico   mas de Bacalar

Bacalar is a town in Othón P. Blanco municipality in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo, about 40 km north of Chetumal, at 18.67°N, 88.38°W. In the 2005 census the town had a population of 9,833 people.
The name most likely derives from Mayan: b'ak halal, meaning "surrounded by reeds", the name of the locality attested at the time of the 16th century arrival of the Spanish.   more Bacalar
